It is not often that an unseen painting comes out of hiding,
well, not when it is by Eric Ravilious.
"Lombardy Poplars" is a watercolour painted by Ravilious in 1935, and has been in private ownership until now.
From now on the painting will be held in the Towner Collection in Eastbourne which will be housed in Eastbourne's new art gallery, due to open summer 2008. In support of Eastbourne's new art gallery the Ravilious family have given special permission for the watercolour to be produced in a limited edition reproduction print of 500. All proceeds from sales of the print will go to the fundraising for the new art gallery.
