Please join us for drinks and a preview of our September exhibition, featuring limited edition prints and large papercuts by Mister Rob Ryan.

Swirling, intricate bells, birds, trees and stars fill the prints and paper cuts of silhouetted lovers surrounded by floating poetry. Rob Ryan shares his romantic thoughts with us at Castor and Pollux with an exhibition of screen prints, printed tiles and paper cuts. 'My work operates on an openly emotional level, and it's quite sentimental, which I don't think is a bad thing.'
You may not have visited Ryantown before, but you may recognise the work of Mister Rob through his many creative collaborations with Vogue, Paul Smith and Liberty.
Here are tales and poems to rival the darkest of Grimm's fairy-tales 'The actual germ of an idea is just a moment of thinking, maybe that's how things are, or how they should be, or how I want them to be.'
Rob Ryan's world is filled with dark as well as light, where love, hate, loss, pain, fear and death are to be found. All of which are very beautiful.
The simple and straightforward subjects of Robert Ryan's work are in marked contrast to the deceptively sophisticated manner in which they are made; painstakingly hand-cut with the smallest scalpels from the most delicate of papers.

Tech-tile: Stephen Bottomley
We visited Hove Museum the other day to see Tech-tile, an exhibition of the work of Stephen Bottomley inspired by and in homage to the work of Mario Fortuny, the Venetian artist who at the turn of the Twentieth Century brought together past and present, modern and medieval, designs and technologies.
Stephen Bottomley uses traditional craft skills combined with cutting-edge computer design tools to produce his work inspired by the geometric orientalism of Fortuny.
Bottomley says ‘My work plays on the inherent differences of two arenas - one the product of our time, the other the tradition of our discipline. Where these two worlds interweave is a new territory that stimulates ideas and imaginations.’

Mibo
Clacket Lane Tote BagMibo is a small design firm run by Madeline Rogers who was our next door neighbour when we worked from a lovely mews in Hove. Madeline gave up her day job as an Art Director for Film and Video to found Mibo and her designs found immediate resonance being quickly taken up by Habitat, Heals and the Conran Shop.
Chicken Stock Linen Cushion (Screenprint)Mibo produces a large range of products that fit with the retro/scandi flavour that's huge at the moment however Mibo keeps it fresh and exciting. Mibo started out with lighting/printed lampshades but now covers everything including wallpaper, tiles, lighting, cushions and bags.
Clacket Lane Large ShadeMibo isn't too grand to sell to the likes of us and has an good online shop where new products and old favourites can be bought direct from the studio.

Xenia Taler Tiles
Xenia Taler are partners Xenia Taler and Steven Koblinsky. Xenia designs the tiles, Steven crafts the clay and glazes in their Toronto studio.
The tiles are unusual, painterly and enchanting. A feature on your bathroom wall, they aim to make something that you want to save when it comes to redecorating.
