Artwave Festival - Lewes and surroundings
August 25th - September 9th.
At the weekend we went over to see some of the Open Houses taking part in Artwave. Took the train to Lewes and walked around seeing the ones near the town centre. Another weekend will drive out to see others in places nearby.Of the ones near Lewes centre our first stop was at St John's Terrace. Here we saw beautiful hand thrown ceramics by Topsy Jewell:
and my favourite of everything we saw on our visit to Lewes; printed feathers by Rebecca Jewell. We had seen Rebecca's feathers in London and this time we bought one - and came home with this beautiful and delicate Puffin, printed by Rebecca on a feather and framed in a vintage frame.
We also called in at the Open House at St Michael's Old Rectory, futher up on the High Street, to see David Rhys Jones's ceramics and Peter Van Breda's paintings. We particularly loved the ceramics.
After a coffee we walked back down the High Street and spent time at Westgate Chapel to look at the "Picasso at Play" exhibition of photographs from the Lee Miller Archives at Farley Farm. Great images.
There's lots more to see at the Artwave Festival - these are just the ones we particularly liked and managed to fit in on visit one afternoon at the weekend. For details of all the artists mentioned and Artwave see: www.artwavefestival.org
