Peter Carreras - Sussex printmaker donates his work to support Sussex Heritage Trust

Peter Carreras, Sussex artist and printmaker, has donated the body of his work to Sussex Heritage Trust.

Born in London in 1921 and brought up in Worthing, Carreras came to printmaking late in life. Between 1985 and 2001 he studied the various techniques at Putney School of Art, London, and at NorthbrookCollege, Ferring in Sussex. His work has been exhibited at galleries in Wimbledon and a number of Sussex towns, notably Horsham, Worthing, Chichester and Arundel.

“From the age of four,” Carreras recalls, “either playing along the sea shore or, later, walking the Downs with my friends from Worthing High School, or cycling out with them to discover villages and windmills, I grew up feeling that Sussex was a part of me, and I always have."

When asked about the decision to donate his work he says; "In offering the bulk of my remaining work for the benefit of the Trust I hope that the discipline which came to me late in my life will not be lost on those who care for line, colour and content.”

There will be an exhibition to celebrate the artist's gift to Sussex Heritage Trust. Please support this and come and see the exhibition. The venue is a beautiful building not always open to the public, and is in the centre of Lewes.
