Search out paintings in your area - The Public Catalogue Foundation

Recently I have come across a superb series of books which aim to give us all more access to paintings in public ownership. This is a series of catalogues produced by a charity "The Public Catalogue Foundation".
The catalogues are beautifully produced and give a full details and illustrations of all oil and acrylic paintings in public collections in a given area or county.
I have bought the East Sussex edition, which covers large collections such as Brighton and Hove Museums, and The Towner in Eastbourne, through to smaller places such as the Seaford Museum. It is fascinating to see what is held in the collections.
Many are paintings that I have never heard about or seen and did not know were held in collections in my home county. I now just need to fine some time to go out and see them all. It reminds me what super works of art are held in our galleries and public collections.

These large format catalogues are well priced at £20.00 for softback and £35.00 for hardback.
